June, 2010 HVQ update
Below is a write-up from our very own HVQ guild member, Carolyn Jordan, on her beautiful award winning quilt: "I am a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and entered their American Heritage quilt contest this year. My quilt won first place in the state of Florida and the Southeast regional contests. ... It placed third in the national contest. The theme is 'Remembering Our American Heritage'. My father was in the Navy so I knew my quilt had to include something about the military service branches. I machine embroidered the patterns of the 4 service emblems and placed them in the corners of the quilt. The Navy was in the upper left corner for my father. The Air Force was in the upper right corner because my son-in-law served there. The Army and Marine Corps share the other half of the quilt. Each of the 4 sections of the quilt also contain patriotic music titles and names of various national parks I have visited over the years. 'We the People of the United States' is in the center of the quilt to remind us of the Preamble of the Constitution with chevrons pointing toward it. The border of the quilt contains the names of the 50 states in postal code form. The 4 corners of the border contain the 9-11 commerative stamp." Congrats and great job Carolyn!!!! We are sure proud of you!

Congratulations to Gerry Steverson on winning first place in our "Greeting Card Challenge". Her quilt was based on a birthday card sent to her from her father several years ago. Thanks to all that participated! We hope to try this particular challenge again sometime next year.

May 19, 2010 HVQ updates
T-shirts are in!! Let me toot our own horn and say they look GREAT! This time we ordered two "spring/summer" colors ("carribean" blue and a "tropical" pink). Now, usually I am NOT a pink person however, I must confess that the pink is my favorite so far! Our blue and white logo really "pops" on the pink background. So, for those of you that did not order a pink (or any), ya'll might want to bring your checkbooks...your are gonna want your own! :) Michelle will bring our shirts (for those of you that bought one) Thursday night. We had 3 members enter the 2010 Greeting Card Challenge...I few more had signed-up and/or expressed a desire to enter however "things" came up (understandable...happens to me all the time :) For the three that were turned in, I must say, they were so creative and inspiring! We will announce the winner Thursday night! Don't forget your charity quilts and pillowcases! We have to have everything turned in (for those that signed-up) by our June meeting, so we can present them to a Guardian ad Litem representative at our July meeting. Keep up the good work ladies...I know it is appreciated.
September 19, 2009 HVQ booth at the Holmes Co. Fair
This was our first year decorating a booth for the Holmes Co. Fair. We had a great time and the booth was perfect (in our humble opinions). We went with a "nostalgic" theme, entitled, "A Stitch in Time..." and turned a 8' x 8' booth into a ladies bedroom from the 1900's...complete with bed, vintage steamer trunk, side tables, oil lamp, iron and board, clock, hats, sewing items and of course, quilts! We had both antique and new quilts...everything from full size bedquilts, to runners, to table covers to miniatures. We had it all! Thanks to all that helped decorate and tear down the booth and to everyone that provided props. It was all greatly appreciated. Blessings, ~Angie
